I often get messages and email from you wonderful people asking about a specific kitchen tool or appliance. So I thought of penning down some of them as a handy guide for you all. Many "helpers" (as I like o call them) that I use every day have become an essential part of my prepping and cooking. All my favorite small kitchen appliances are given in this post. Today I am listing below some of my most used tools, with product information and details (where possible). Hope this will make you more familiar with how The Kitchen Docs roll and will make shopping for these easier for you.

    Knives

Dull knives is one of biggest pet peeves. I believe that sharp knives are your biggest helpers in your kitchen. These get the job done faster and cleaner. Rada knives are my absolute favorite. This set has been my everyday favorite for close to four years now and they are still as sharp as they were when brand new.

I am still testing my Misen knives (on Facebook here). I like them but they have to spend a little more time with me to earn my devotion.

    Chopping Boards

Confession - I am obsessed with collecting chopping boards - mostly wood and have them in different shapes and sizes. Dr. A brought me a chopping board made from wood from some consulate in Canada with a Government stamp engraved on it. So cool!

    Graters

Box grater used for grating cheese, shredding carrots, cauliflower, radishes etc. for paranthas. Grater used mainly for grating ginger and garlic and the zester for ..well..zesting all kinds of citrus. Yumm!

    Measuring cups and spoons

Used in my kitchen every single day. More so since I started working on the blog, since now I measure and note down everything for you all.

    Whisks

Another everyday use tool in the kitchen. If you are making scrambled eggs (recipe here) or whipping up some homemade salad dressing (this one), you need a good set of whisks. I have a set that I got from Ikea and is pretty similar to these.

    Tongs

Very useful. From sauteing, to stir frying, mixing salads, flipping foods - you name it. I have pair from some random store that has been my faithful for quite sometime now. But my next pair of tongs is going to be this one.

    Cookie Sheets

The more cookie sheets you have, the better it is. baking, roasting (recipes here, here and here) mixing, food photography prop - you name it!

    Instant Digital thermometer

I use this one. Mostly for poultry because I am scared to death about making every one sick with under cooked poultry - paranoia! You can also use it for oil temperature and making caramel etc.

     Mixing Bowls and Colanders

Absolutely necessary along with steel mesh sieves.

    Others

A marble mortar and pestle that I got form India is another helper to grind garlic and green chillies or dry spices like green cardamom (more on spices here). This one is very close to the one I have.

Thanks for taking a virtual tour of my kitchen. I reckon that all the cooking tools will have to a part of a different post.

    Happy Prepping!

    Love- Vaishali.

Some great ones in this list. I need to get a good digital thermometer and we're always going through cutting boards, likely because ours aren't the best. Will have to check out the one you shared above.

I never realized how important good knives were until I ran a catering company. There really is such a difference between good and bad ones.
